THE scandal is finally uncovered. The subsidiaries of the Reserve Bank of Australia, Securency International and Note Printing Australia are suspected of giving US$1.3 million to two officials of Bank Indonesia. The kickbacks were paid in order to secure an order for printing 500 million Rp100,000 bills through the representative of the Reserve Bank of Australia in Indonesia. Procurements of currency have long been marked by conspiracies, from tenders which are not transparent, conflicts between Bank Indonesia and state-owned mint Peruri, to bribery suspicions.
