THE trial of Bahasyim Assifie, charged with corruption and money laundering, was suspiciously delayed three times in two weeks, before the indictment was read out. The delays raised speculations that the prosecutors may be cutting some kind of a deal with Bahasyim. Reportedly, they offered to lighten his sentence. But the KPK’s effort to catch the prosecutors and Bahasyim’s agent in the act failed because the plan was leaked. Since the Gayus affair, prosecutors are increasingly being spotlighted on their possible involvement in the Bahasyim case.
