BUSINESS transactions over Indonesian cyberspace has been booming, prompting the government to consider it the engine of economic growth and a major source of tax revenue. Last year online transactions topped Rp168 trillion. Even President Joko Widodo has been sufficiently impressed to direct the development of a strategy on how the state can benefit more from the expanding e-commerce. But not all of his ministries are of one mind in pursuing this digital dream and like any venture, it needs legal parameters to manage the ups and the downs.
