THESE are the final weeks of the Special Committee Inquiry into the Bank Century case. Finance Minister Sri Mulyani and Vice President Boediono seem to be targets. Almost all of the political party factions in the House of Representatives consider them to be the most responsible for the Century bailout. Had President Yudhoyono acted at the start, the Bank Century issue would not have become so convoluted. It is clearly the President’s prerogative to fire members of his cabinet. But if this is in any way carried out as part of a means to keep him in power, we should be truly disappointed. The politics of ‘seeking a scapegoat’ is not based on the objective of achieving prosperity for all.
