Two weeks after bombing targets and efforts to seek control of strategic positions, US troops and their allied forces claim to be ready to take Baghdad. But the odds apparently are not that easy, especially with the resistance put up by Iraqi troops—an indication that a fierce battle is expected. Unlike other cities, Baghdad is well-guarded by members of the Republican Guard, an elite military force which analysts rank as one of the best trained in the world. Urban warfare is on the cards. To support the painfully slow progress, the US preparing to send another 120,000 soldiers.
