OVER the past two weeks, waves of protests have swept all around the world, including here in Indonesia. It all began with the publication in October last year of a series of cartoons depicting the Prophet Muhammad in Danish newspaper Jylands-Posten. The cartoons were then reprinted by some publications in several European countries. The publication of the cartoons was protested against because they are considered to insult Islam. Is it true that freedom of expression is unqualified? What are the opinions of religious figures in Indonesia?
