A NUMBER of prominent fi gures are starting early in setting their sights on running in the 2014 presidential election. All of them hope they can replace the incumbent, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, who will have served out the greater part of his two terms, as allowed by the Constitution. Aburizal Bakrie, Prabowo Subianto and Jusuf Kalla have openly declared their willingness and ability, while Mahfud Md, Hatta Rajasa and Dahlan Iskan appear more hesitant about acknowledging their plans. Then there are movements, like the one pushing for former military commander Endriartono Sutarto. They too are busy preparing, amassing funds, going to the regions, trying to gain popularity.
