THE polemic over legislators demanding kickbacks to facilitate budget disbursement is occupying center-stage once more. This followed comments by State Enterprises Minister Dahlan Iskan, who claimed that some of the companies under his ministry’s oversight were pressured to give ‘tributes’ in the billions of rupiah to politicians at Senayan, home of the House of Representatives. Their methods vary, from marking documents with different-colored stars to distinguish the different amounts and degree of importance, to subtle threats of public investigation on corporate financial losses. The legislators retaliated by challenging Dahlan to name names.
