Taming Temasek
THE Business Competition Supervisory Commission (KPPU) found Temasek Holdings guilty of violating Indonesian anti-monopoly laws through its cross-ownership in Indosat and Telkomsel. As a result, cellphone tariffs in Indonesia are the highest in Asia. But who is really behind the expensive tariffs? And, as some have suggested, was the KPPU ruling against the Singapore state-owned investment company nothing less than politically motivated?
