THE Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono-Jusuf Kalla partnership finally ended. Kalla will have to think hard in choosing his own vice-presidential candidate. Perhaps he feels trapped and confused, as if lost in a maze. He must know by now that the optimism he generated has, so far, failed to produce the expected results. Golkar, as the winner of the 2004 elections, lost many votes in the recent April 9 polls, while the Democrat Party saw its votes triple. If PDI-P’s Megawati insists on running for the presidency, Kalla will be forced to think very hard.
