PRESIDENT Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono finally selected Commissioner-General Timur Pradopo as the new Police Chief, replacing General Bambang Hendarso Danuri, who will have retired on October 10.       The National Police Headquarters had actually nominated two other candidates: Commissioner- General Nanan Soekarna and Commissioner-General Imam Soedjarwo. But Yudhoyono changed his mind and chose instead the former Metro Jakarta Police Chief.       Critics say Yudhoyono chose Timur because of close personal ties. Timor is also someone who is well-liked by Ibu Ageng, Yudhoyono’s motherin-law, reportedly because of his calm and courteous demeanor.
