LIKE a recurring nightmare, the threat of a coup d’état surfaces about the same time every year. This time the rumors, spread super-fast by social media, tell of an ominous plan to oust President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, triggered by a massive public protest to be held on March 25. The message says the action is justifi ed because the President has been a huge disappointment to the people. To manifest the plan, activists intend to gather at Cisarua, Bogor and eventually, form a People’s Council. Realistically, who would want to launch a coup when the President only has a year and a half to go before the end of his term? So, why does he feel the need to meet with seven retired but still infl uential army generals?
