Asian Agri has refused to pay a Rp2.5 trillion fi ne imposed by the government. The business group owned by Sukanto Tanoto is set to fi ght its case in court over Rp1.9 trillion in tax arrears. On the other hand, the tax director-general shows no sign of backing down, despite heavy pressure from the political elite. How serious is this tax evasion case?
