Independence Day Special : 17 Agustus 2013 HE was a shrewd diplomat and a skilled debater, a moderate religious scholar, yet a critical one. He once questioned his faith and struggled with it until he found the right Islam for Indonesia; not Islam bound by old traditions, but one which could motivate people into determining their own fates. These diverse personal experiences, occurring during the time of the Dutch occupation and on until Indonesian independence, made the man known as Haji Agus Salim.
