Voting For Peace
JOKO Widodo is not about to allow his victory to be undermined by negative elements. He hopes there will be no protests and no violence to mar the announcement of the offi cial vote tally by the General Elections Commission (KPU) this week. To this end, Jokowi took the initiative last week to approach key political fi gures, mainly those from rival parties. Most importantly, he has made a vital change to the symbolism of his activism: abandoning the two-fi nger salute for a fi ve-fi nger greeting to signify peace and stability. In other words, he urges people to stay at home when the winner of the presidential election is announced. But will his supporters heed his call?
